Happy October...

Happy October everybody! I love October because of : Halloween, the Halloween moon, decorations, and more! October is such a fun month because my mom puts up all of the harvest decorations and makes are house look like it's ready for harvest. Another reason I like October is because of the moon. October moons look so cool and mysterious. Halloween is so much fun.( mainly because you get to dress up and get candy!) I enjoy the feeling of October. The weather is such a big change. A couple weeks ago, it was boiling hot; now it's really cold. I love October!

Third Week of Fifth Grade

Fifth grade is finally here! I am having so much fun with my new teacher and new classmates. My teacher is new to my school and his name is Mr. Shore. He is definitely an ocean person and loves to sail. My new classmates are so much fun to be around. I have three new girls and two new boys in my class. Actually, one of the two new boys lives two streets down from me.Two of the girls in my class went to the other campus last year. Instead of raising his voice, my teacher plays the diggery-doo! That is an Australian instrument. When he is done playing the diggery-doo,everyone has to be quiet. Now that's what I call creativity! Mr. Shore has had many different jobs. One of his jobs was in Germany! One of Mr.Shore's talent's is playing the guitar and the saxophone.

There are many new things about my school--Not just the teachers and students! We have a great hot lunch program. It is so much better than our one last year. Why you ask? Because we have a new program--It's called Children's Choice. It has a better variety of healthier food, and instead of having to order a month before, we can order a day before! Last year, we had an unhealthy, disgusting,(except for the pizza) odd program. I love our new hot lunch!

Today was picture day and I think I did pretty good. I wore my hair in pigtails with a poof in the front. I wore my red school shirt and plaid skirt. I am the fourth tallest in my class. I used to be the tallest girl in my class for at least some time but it seems like I shrunk over the summer. For our class picture I was on the top row and a piece of hair was in my eye so I think when the picture comes I'll have a little bit of a watery eye; but I don't think you can really tell.

I love fifth grade and I can't wait to see what other surprises it has for me!

Brain Buster...

Say you're shooting a bow n' arrow; when you shoot the first one how many more can shoot before the first one touches the ground? ( average number) I'll be posting the answer on Thursday . Don't forget! (scroll down for answer)

FIVE ARROWS

Thanks for trying to solve my brain buster!

Did You Know...

That recycling companies will not take plastic water bottles and recycle them if the lids are still screwed on to them. So please remember to take the lids off before you recycle them.

YUM!!!

If you have a dog this is a blog post for you!!!! Here on this screen is the best dog recipe ever to be invented in the world--and if you don't believe me, ask my dogs! Every time I go over to my friend Grace's house, her mom always has something fun and exciting to do. That particular day, we made Boo's dog biscuits! They were so much fun to make and you too can make them any time. Here's the recipe:

3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cup Quaker oats
1 cup milk
1/2 cup hot water
2 beef or chicken bouillon cubes
1/2 cup meat drippings

Dissolve bouillon cubes in hot water. Add milk drippings and beat. In separate bowl , mix flour and oatmeal. Pour liquid ingredients and mix well. Press onto an ungreased cookie sheet and cut into shapes desired. (Feel free to get creative here.) Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Turn off heat and leave in the oven to harden. Refrigerate after baking. BON(E) APPETIT!

My Summer Trip...

I'm back! My family and I just came back from South Dakota. It was so much fun! We went to Mt.Rushmore, Custer National Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Wa Tiki water park, and many other places too. One of my favorite places we went to was Mt.Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore was a breathtaking sight. We took the trail down to get a closer look at Mt.Rushmore and walked over two-hundred and fifty steps! I recommend if you aren't good with walking long distances, I would still try, but don't push yourself. Mt. Rushmore also has a gallery that tells you about how Mr. Berglum ( Creator of Mt. Rushmore.) carved the monument with his eyes closed and told his workers that they needed to let their hands be their eyes. Also Mr. Berglum practiced on a smaller rock. When Berglum died when they were still carving the monument. Berglum's workers did not want to risk using another sculptor because they were worried the other sculptor would change his design.

Another favorite stop on the trip was Wa Tiki water park. Wa Tiki is the biggest water park in all of the Dakotas! They have three giant slides, a lazy river, a toddler slide area, a smaller pool all connected into two different hotels! My brother and I went on the smaller slides first then my dad convinced me to on the big ones. When I was walking up, I told myself," It's just a slide." and climbed up the staircases to the top. When I was almost halfway up I saw the toilet bowl slide; or as my mom calls it ,"a funnel." and it looked so cool. I went to the top and asked a girl if I you had to use an inner tube on the slides or if you can just go yourself. She said you have to use an inner tube on all of them except the third one. After thanking her, I went back down the stairs and tried to convince my brother to go on the slides with me because he was down with my dad still. He finally agreed with me and we went to go and get a double inner tube. When we got up there I was nervous and excited. The double inner tube was heavy getting all the way up there but, we made it. The toilet bowl was so cool once we went down it! It was fast and exciting! After going down that one we decided to go down the next big one. It was exciting too,but in a different way. It gets really dark at one point and you're going all these different directions. My mom went down the slides too. We never did go down the third one but that was o.k. because it looked really small and it was only one person at a time. Besides, those other too slides were so awesome, there wasn't any time to go down the third one! I had so much fun at Wa Tiki water park!

On the last part of are trip, we took about an hour drive out to the famous Wall drugstore. During the Great Depression of the 1930's people on there way to California because of the Dust Bowl would stop at wall drugs for free ice water. My family and I stopped there and had lunch. We also looked around. After leaving wall drugs we set off on our way to the Badlands which is really near by. They were amazing! It was so cool to see how those rocks were carved and how big they were. We didn't go out very far because it was dangerous but, we got a close enough look. I had so much fun on our family trip to South Dakota and I'm glad I got to experience all that South Dakota has to offer!

James and Nicole

Here they are! James and Nicole. Now, like all penguins, they have many talents. James is an All-Star basketball player and has a strong passion for playing the flute. He loves wearing his green high tops. I don't think I've ever seen him without them on besides when he's sleeping. Nicole was born a ballerina. She is always dancing around the house, and sometimes even knocking over valuable vases! She is going to start dance lessons soon at Penguins Academy of the Arts. She is so excited she already wants to learn how to put on her ballet shoes so when she is old enough she can just slip them on and begin dancing. As you can see James has a blue stomach and Nicole has a pink stomach. Those are their birth marks; and I must say, they do look good on them! You know what's strange? James has more hair than me and I'm older. Shouldn't I be the one with more hair?! Now Nicole can have way more hair because she's a girl and she does. I like my sister's hair. It's so curly and long; just like my mom's. Well, that's all the information I can give you right now but until next time, I'm Chippy the Penguin!

Summer's finally here!....

Hurray!! Summer's finally here! I have been chilaxing for the past week and sure enjoying it. My family and I are so happy and sad that fourth grade is over. We're happy because we need a break from all that work, but sad because we miss Mrs. H and everyone at school. The best part is that I have the whole summer to spend swimming, dancing, reading, laughing, and having fun! Some things my family and I are looking forward to this summer are: My family and I are going to Mt.Rushmoore for the Fourth of July. Also, my Great Aunt Nena has come to visit for a couple of days. I love her. My dance team and I are auditioning for the next team up [Juniors]. I plan on finishing the fourth Harry Potter this summer:Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (734 pages!), doing the play "Peter Pan" with CTE, and many other things too. This is going to be the best summer ever and I hope yours is too!

Surprise!.....

'Ello, Chippy here! I have brought along some great news with me today; my mother didn't have just a baby brother, she had twins! She had one boy and one girl. Their names are James and Abigail. Abigail is slightly older by ten seconds. They are so cute and playful and love to laugh and pull my beak. Abigail's favorite color is orange and James' favorite color is silver. We could automatically tell by their toys. I love my little siblings! The only downside is I have to wake up too in the middle of the night to see what's the matter with Abigail or James. I also have to help feed them, change their diapers, and put them to bed. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. Once I told my friends, they were blissful; also a little bit shocked. I guess I shouldn't be complaining because I have help from my friends. They love my brother and sister so much, they made a deal with me that if they help me with taking care of the babies, I will let them play with the babies. Of course, my parents were all for my friends helping. I have a feeling that my siblings are going to grow up to be great penguins! Once again this is Chippy the penguin signing off!

Three weeks till summer!

Only three more weeks of fourth grade left! I can hardly wait! The only problem is, I don't want to leave my magnificent teacher's class, Mrs.Heitmann. We're on our last chapter of History and homework's been really light because we barely have anything left in our books. Also, there is only a small amount of pages in our planner too! Summer's going to be so much fun! My family and I are going to Mt. Rushmore for the Fourth of July and I expect I will be swimming almost everyday. I also expect to be doing a lot of reading too. My goal is to finish up the whole Harry Potter series and at least a couple of some other books.[I'm in the middle of the second book right now.]Another activity I am really looking forward to this summer is auditioning for the next team up in dance, Juniors. When I watch them dance they look amazing![The other teams too.] My friends birthday party is also something to look forward to along with the Cal.Elite dance recital. "Peter Pan" is a play that this program my friend on dance team and I do. I am trying out for Wendy which is one of the main leads in "Peter Pan". Right now we are doing the play "Annie". I tried out for Tessie but unfortunately, I didn't get the part;but I did have the opportunity to tap dance with Tessie during one of the dance numbers.[My friend got to do it too.] This is my first time doing this program so I didn't get my hopes to high to expect a lead roll. It is so much fun and all the teachers are extremely nice! I have so many goals to reach this summer, I don't know if there is enough summer to do it all in!

Brain Busters....

Here are some questions that will have your brain doing some hard thinking. See if you can figure them all out!

Why do people park on a driveway, but drive on a parkway?

Why does "after dark" occur after light?

Why are whales still chubby after all that swimming?

Why don't sheep shrink in the rain?

Why do cameras have round lenses, but take square pictures?

Why does night fall, but day break?

Why is one of the hottest dishes called "chili?"

Why are many people afraid of heights but no one is afraid of widths?

If you figured out at least one of them type me a comment of your answer but please tell me which question your answering. Thanks!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHLOE !!

Hooray! It's Chloe's birthday! She is now 1 year old.[7 years in dog years.] Chloe's birthday is on April 23, 2008. Today is actually Jonas's, Tracy's and Buster's birthday too.[Chloe's brothers and sisters.] Today is a very special day because Chloe is now allowed to try her first pig's ear! I love Chloe so much and she is a very kind, sweet , loving dog. Some of Chloe's favorite things to do are: play ball, go for walks, sleep, snuggle with everyone, [even if they are a complete stranger!] and play with her polka-dotted squeaky bone. I hope you had a spectacular B-day Chloe!

Love, Lauren

Chippy the Penguin

'ello, my name is Chippy, Chippy the penguin! I have a black body with a gray stomach. I wear a sailors hat with a red stripe across it. My favorite color is yellow, and I love to eat fish! Playing ball is my favorite thing to do in my free time. I don't know if it's true, but other penguins are always telling me I have a British accent. My best friends name is Nippy, he is a piranha, but he is very gentle and friendly. If you look closely, you will realize Nippy's body is shaped like a ham with his flat face and roundish body. Nippy is orange in color, with a little green around his fins. He loves to play ball too but , the ball always POPS when he plays because of his razor sharp teeth and sharp fin on too! He swims all day and night trying to perfect this one trick; a tripple flip in the air! I love to watch him practice because he is getting so close to doing it!

I have many other friends too that live here to, at the British Zoo of Wild Life, with me. Their names are Leanna the lion, Kipper the monkey, Janet the giraffe, and Puck the beaver. Janet and Leanna are always hanging out together. Kipper loves to play ball with Nippy and me. When we play ball, the game could go on for hours, and maybe even days!! One activity Leanna loves is painting art. She never stops talking about her magnificent paintings or the art projects she dreams about painting some day! You can always tell Puck from the other beavers because of his flaming orange hair. No one knows precisely how he got his hair to turn out like that-- even Puck him self! Puck is more of the comedian of the group. Whenever you hang around him let's just say you'll never stop laughing! All my friends are magnificent in their own special way and I am so lucky to have friends like them!

Some things I also enjoy are taking walks, gardening, and riding my ice-cycle! I also find it relaxing to swim in the icey cold pond or daydream about snow skiing. It may seem that I always spend my time with my friends, but I also spend a lot of time with my family. My mother and father's names are Lilian and Andy. They are both very calm and patient. I visit my parents about two times a week, for about five hours each time I visit. My mother is actually expecting a baby in a couple weeks, so they keep her in a separate part of the exhibitt, but, I somehow manage to see her after visiting hours. Shhh! Soon I will have a baby brother! My mother was thinking of a name and decided on the name of James. I'm gonna teach him to ski!!! Well, that's it for now. Keep your eyes peeled for the next post about me and my amazing freinds! As I always say, Cheerio!

A 4th Grade Writer Girl...

Hi, my name is Lauren and I absolutely love to write! I get the ability of writing from my mom. She is an awesome writer! I enjoy writing because it is fun for me, like it is fun for someone who really likes sports. The average writing I could do in an hour would probably be, well if they were big paragraphs, maybe 1 to 2. If they were medium maybe 1-3, but I'm still only a fourth grader! My teacher, Mrs. H, gave us an oral test recently and afterwards she asked who still liked writing? I said I sort of like both because writing gives me the chance to expand my vocabulary, but talking goes faster. She said, "That's right, you're my little writer girl!" Then, just recently, she read my answers to the class on my chapter 8 history test as an example she said, because my answers were so detailed. I guess when you practice at something it really pays off after all. Writing is such an interesting part of my life, and I owe it all to my mom. Thanks for passing on your talent!
